The DB AG procured two types of control cab coaches for InterCity traffic. The seventy-five coaches of type Bpmbdzf 296 (originally Bpmbdzf 297) are pressure-tight and air-conditioned, have swivelling sliding doors and open seating area seats. In contrast to the type Bimdzf 271, the frame side members have aerodynamic skirts.
